ANNIE, KUH SINGS THE CLASSICS
"I hope it speaks to them about the beauty of our music and the nobility of the Pinoy character"
Working with Bob Aves as musical arranger/producer, and with Radha and Grace Nono as vocal arrangers, Ledesma lends a bold spin to the music of masters Nicanor Abelardo, Lucio San Pedro, George Canseco and other kundiman composers. The result: a sound she calls "Neo- Pilipino"
As a whole, it works, although Ledesma, who also conceptualized the album with Aves, had the gracious sense to leave some of the songs--especially Abelardo's "Nasaan Ka Irog" and San Pedro/Levi Celerio's "Ugoy ng Duyan"(incidentally our favorites in the CD) well enough alone.
The album's major selling point, of course, is Ledesma's voice, a "magnificently refined instrument," drum-beaters point out. We agree.
