Viva launches ‘Diva 2 Diva’ album

By Crispina Martinez. Belen, The Manila Bulletin Online, Nov. 8, 2003

Viva Records is set to launch today on ABS-CBN’s “ASAP Mania” an album that will certainly be another milestone in the local music industry. The album, “Diva 2 Diva,” features the unique artistry and musicality of two of the country’s real divas, Kuh Ledesma and Zsa Zsa Padilla.

The “Diva 2 Diva” album is Kuh and Zsa Zsa’s latest creative collaboration inspired by their very successful two-night concert at the PICC last year. It is the first album to feature two of the top female singers in the country. This makes the “Diva 2 Diva” album a true collector’s item, especially for discriminating music aficionados.

With the concert lasting over two hours, it was impossible to include every song in the album. So Kuh and Zsa Zsa, with the help of their creative team, had to be extremely choosy about which songs would make it to the final line-up.

They settled on the most-applauded numbers during the concerts staged both at the PICC and during “Diva 2 Diva’s” US tour. And to ensure a studio quality recording, the two divas redid the chosen songs specially for the album.

These include Kuh and Zsa Zsa’s duets of “Vogue,” “Only Hope,” “One Less Bell,” “I Know Him So Well” and “Tell Him,” their Michel Legrand Medley (“Windmills of Your Mind,” “The Summer Knows,” “A Piece of Sky” and “Where Do I Begin”), Divas Medley (“Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan,” “Ikaw Lamang,” “Kahit Na,” “Dito Ba”) and the Broadway Medley (“Somewhere from West Side Story,” Memory from Cats, “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from Evita, “As If We Never Said Goodbye” from “Sunset Boulevard” and “The Prayer” from the soundtrack of “Quest for Camelot).

The album was something the two divas had been talking about for a long time – actually, ever since they came up with the idea for the concert.

It’s the fulfillment of a dream for both of them. “You know, it’s funny, because we move in the same circles, but we’ve never really worked together on a project,” observes Zsa Zsa. “Thanks to the concert and now the album, we finally got to do something together.”

Kuh, meanwhile says she’s always wanted to work with Zsa Zsa, but just never got the chance. “I have great respect for Zsa Zsa’s talent, and I’ve always wanted to work with her,” says the Pop Diva. “I’m glad that we got together for “Diva 2 Diva,” and it’s even better now that we have a chance to share the music with more people because of the album. We both hope people enjoy it.”

Don’t fail to watch Kuh and Zsa Zsa today, in “ASAP” when they perform some of the songs from the album in a mini-concert that stands to be one of the grandest album launches ever in the history of local music.

The “Diva 2 Diva” album, sponsored by Salon and Boutique Plantasy (Makati Cinema Square) and Days Hotel, is scheduled to be released by Viva Records at all record outlets this month.
